The Young Women’s Leadership School (TYWLS) of Queens is an all-girls public school located in the Jamaica neighborhood that opened in 2005 with a class of 7th graders. TYWLS of Queens was modeled on our flagship school TYWLS of East Harlem in partnership with the NYC Department of Education and The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The school offers low-income students with an outstanding college-preparatory education, personalized attention, and hands-on learning where girls can thrive academically.

YWLN-Supported Activities:
YWL Network (YWLN) develops partnerships and provides resources and direct support services to our students and staff. Our work focuses on four priority areas: College Preparation, Math, Science and Technology, Leadership and Female Adolescent Development. A full-time CollegeBound Initiative (CBI) counselor works with girls beginning in grade six to build early college awareness and help attain college access. We also support new program initiatives, summer programs, after school programs and special events like career days, leadership lectures and more. YWLN supports its teachers and principals by providing professional development, teacher grants, and leadership support. |
