The Young Women's Leadership Network School at Rhodes (Philadelphia)

http://webgui.phila.k12.pa.us/schools/r/rhodes

The Young Women’s Leadership Network School (TYWLS) at Rhodes in Philadelphia was formed in 2002 when Victory Schools Inc. was brought in to separate the genders at Fitzsimons Middle School in North Philadelphia. Victory called upon the assistance of YWL Network (YWLN) to support the work of the all-girls’ school. In 2005 the girl's school moved into its own building in the former space of Rhodes Middle School. The school offers low-income students with an outstanding college-preparatory education, personalized attention, and hands-on learning where girls can thrive accademically.

The Young Women's Leadership School North PhiladelphiaThe school serves 489 girls in grades 7-12 and graduated its first class of seniors in June 2007. The school is a zoned middle school for North Philadelphia. Students have the option not to attend the single-gender academies but the school must accept all students who wish to enroll.

YWLN has funded full-time CollegeBound Initiative counselor since 2004. Their primary roles are to implement college awareness, SAT preparation, coordinate program partnerships, summer programs, after-school programs and facilitate community service programs. YWLN also facilitates teacher and student exchanges and sharing of best practices among the YWLN schools.

YWLN-Supported Activities:

YWL Network (YWLN) develops partnerships and provides resources and direct support services to our students and staff. Our work focuses on four priority areas: College Preparation, Math, Science and Technology, Leadership and Female Adolescent Development. A full-time CollegeBound Initiative (CBI) counselor works with girls beginning in grade 6 to build early college awareness and help attain college access. We also support new program initiatives, summer programs, after school programs and special events like career days, leadership lectures and more. YWLN supports its teachers and principals by providing professional development, teacher grants, and leadership support.
