Single-gender
YWLN believes in educating the whole student and
meeting the individual’s needs. A single-gender school
offers students the opportunity for an education free from
stereotypes and where differences in learning are valued
rather than ignored.
Small
Schools Engaged in Leadership Development
The Young Women's Leadership Schools (TYWLS) are small and serve students
in grades 6 through 12. The key to our schools’ success
is the ability to know every student personally, intellectually,
and emotionally. Students in TYWLS schools learn
how to lead and work collaboratively with others. They actively engage
in projects that build their leadership skills, their ability
to work as part of a team, and their capacity to positively
impact their community.
High Expectations
Our schools are unique learning environments built on a foundation
of high expectations and an emphasis on responsible decision-making.
Admission to our schools is available to all students regardless of previous accademic performance, but who have a desire to strive accademically and attend college.
College Preparation
At
our schools college preparation begins in the 7th grade to
build an awareness of college opportunities. College exploration
is integrated into all aspects of the curriculum. A full-time
college guidance counselor is hired, trained, and funded by YWLN. A CBI counselor works in each network school and focuses on guiding
students and their families through the complex admissions
and financial-aid process.
Focus on Results
TYWLS schools place a strong emphasis on results and
typically produce attendance rates and test scores well above
district averages. We have a history of high graduation rates
and student enrollment in four-year colleges. YWLN
supports our schools in developing and meeting their goals.
We evaluate the schools’ academic performances as well
as their ability to implement the Core Values of YWLN.
